George Trotter (George Formby) leaves his home in Manchester and his job in the cotton mills to travel down to London. George has ambitions of being a famous entertainer, but first needs a place to stay. He books into the cheap Ma Tubb's Select Boarding House which is full of other entertainer's in search of fame and fortune. However, when an Australian acrobat is murdered it is the newcomer George who gets the blame. Can George clear his name and launch his career in show business?
